This project revolved around creating a brand identity and system to showcase and advertise a hypothetical museum exhibition based on three selectable categories. I opted to highlight an exhibition commemorating an anniversary, specifically Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine's 55th anniversary.

Given my profound affection and passion for anime and manga, expressing that love to the fullest was immensely personal to me.

I opted for an approach to this project that embraces the dynamic energy and excitement reminiscent of Shonen Jump. Given the vibrant and diverse array of characters from their respective series, I chose to employ a more restrained color palette. This decision was aimed at emphasizing the exhilarating essence of the content.

When designing the logo, I aimed to encapsulate the essence of manga or comic art. I strived to closely mirror the details and strokes of the iconic Shonen Jump logo, opting to retain the impactful word "JUMP." Additionally, I incorporated panels alongside it to convey information, complemented by the use of halftone effects.

To maintain coherence with a manga collection aesthetic, I utilized manga-style panels to present textual information. This not only served to convey details effectively but also established panels as a central motif throughout the catalogue's design.

To emphasize the diversity of eras, I incorporated page designs featuring collage panels representing different Shonen Jump generations. Along the seam of the pages, a timeline-inspired layout highlighted the significance of the "Big 3" series, with "3" being the focal point of this particular catalogue book.

The structure I envisioned for the catalogue resembled a collection of four distinct manga-style books, each representing a unique era or generation of Shonen Jump. Just like how some manga volumes create a cohesive image when stacked, I aimed to replicate this concept with the spines of these volumes.

When it came to crafting the catalogue, I was eager to push the boundaries of my creativity. Opting for a collage-inspired design, I segmented characters according to their themes and enclosed them within panels.

The three spreads displayed here delve into the main trio of the Big 3 series: One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. My goal was to authentically portray the essence and distinctive tone of each series, employing color as a key identifier and manga illustrations to evoke their dynamic energy.

The final pages showcased below not only provide exhibition information but also adhere to the established structure. Utilizing the timeline and highlighted collage, they seamlessly guide readers to where the next volume continues the journey.

When crafting the transitions for each series, I delved into a blend of collected imagery from Shonen Jump issue covers and created dynamic collages that leap off the page, serving almost like bookmarks within the catalogue. These elements not only provide visual interest but also serve as navigational aids, guiding readers through the immersive experience of each respective series.

For the video promotion, I aimed to capture the exhilarating energy of the exhibition. Drawing inspiration from the old Adult Swim commercials aired during their Toonami block, which showcased their anime lineup, I sought to infuse a similar vibe. By combining this with an intense audio track and meticulous video editing, I curated various anime clips and skillfully synchronized each one to match the rhythm of the beat. The result is a dynamic and engaging promotional video that reflects the excitement of the event.

When conceptualizing the wayfinding system, my goal was to integrate manga panel illustrations and structural paneling to effectively convey information. The walls and floors are adorned with abundant illustrations, with each section transitioning seamlessly to represent a different series. Complementing this visual approach, text bubbles and panels are strategically employed to provide clear navigational cues throughout the space. This combination of visual elements ensures a cohesive and intuitive wayfinding experience for visitors.

To highlight merchandise concepts, I drew inspiration from the collages designed for the catalogue, seamlessly integrating them into clothing designs. With a focus on continuity, I placed the logo prominently on the front of the shirts. On the back, I featured the captivating era panels, providing a dynamic visual narrative that connects fans to the rich history of Shonen Jump. This approach not only celebrates the essence of the exhibition but also offers fans a tangible way to immerse themselves in the world of their favorite series.
